Nilton’s story is rooted in the islands. Born and raised in the Azores, he grew up between ocean winds and volcanic landscapes, where nature was not something you visited — it was simply life. As a child, he learned to read the weather, respect the ocean, and move through the land with awareness. Before co-founding Hominis natura, he worked as a fisheries inspector, traveling across all nine islands. The job gave him a deep understanding of the territory — its hidden corners, its rhythms, its people. But his true passion has always been simpler and more elemental.

Nilton feels most at home on a trail, far from noise, carrying only what he needs. He loves the art of bushcraft — working with nature rather than against it — and the quiet ritual of cooking over an open fire after a long day outdoors. For him, hiking is not about reaching a summit. It is about presence, patience, and sharing the journey.
